Crunching The Numbers: 2016 Road Courses

Twice a year, drivers make right turns to go along with the thousands of left turns; Sonoma and Watkins Glen open the door for avid road course racers like AJ Allmendinger to grab a spot in The Chase. With only 2 races, we will only take a look at finish, start, and top 5s.

A few other fun facts about Road Courses this season:

  • Average Margin of Victory: 1.345 seconds
    • Sonoma gave us a closer finish by amost 1.5 seconds than Watkins Glen
  • Average Speed: 85.340 mph
    • Watkins Glen averaged about 9 mph faster than Sonoma
  • Average Drivers on the Lead Lap: 31.5
    • Sonoma had more drivers on the lead lap at the end of the day
  • Average Number of Lead Changes: 10.5
    • Sonoma had 3 more lead changes than Watkins Glen
  • Average First Caution: Lap 11 (or 11.41% into the race)
  • Average Final Caution: Lap 89.5 (or 89.95% in the race/10.05% of the race remaining)
