BRANDON, S.D. — Night two at Huset’s Speedway saw the Huset’s Showdown take place for the World of Outlaws sprint cars.

Chase Randall and Hunter Schuerenberg led the field to kick off the 35-lap main event. Schuerenberg’s front tires got out ahead of Randall’s upon firing and claimed the lead going into Turn 3.

A couple spots behind, Carson Macedo and Sheldon Haudenschild were side-by-side with each other for sixth. As they came out of the first corner they were stuck together like glue, but Turn 3 proved to be the place to be to pass as Macedo slidejobbed Haudenschild entering the corner.

On Lap 4, Scott Winters spun out in Turns 1 and 2, drawing a caution. Although Schuerenberg got a good start on the restart, he just could not find the correct momentum needed to maintain that lead spot and lost first to Randall as they went down the backstretch.

Five laps later, Scott Bogucki and Donny Schatz dueled with each other for third. Bogucki was the placeholder and the veteran wanted a podium finish. As they raced out of the first set of turns, Schatz went to Bogucki’s inside and slidejobbed him going into Turn 4.

At the end of Lap 13, Macedo entered the chat of the top-most drivers. As they charged into Turns 3 and 4, he went up high and surged past Schatz for third. He almost had Schuerenberg by the end of Turn 4, but the momentum wore out and he did not want to hit the wall so he backed off and slipped himself in between the number 15 and the number 2KS.

Ten laps later, Macedo finally got by Schuerenberg, and so did Schatz. Schatz followed right behind Macedo in his dusty tire tracks to get back into third. Falling back like crazy, Schuerenberg lost yet another position to Michael Kofoid down the front straight, putting him in fifth.

The odds were not in Schuerenberg’s favor on Saturday night because just as he was recovering from losing three positions, he spun out in Turn 4, drawing a caution. On the restart, Randall got a really good run but Macedo was slowly closing in.

With two laps remaining, Macedo decided to try his luck and went to pull a slidejob on Randall for the lead. As they went into Turn 2, Macedo pulled the slider and held the lead for a couple of seconds before Randall crossed back over. Side-by-side they entered the next set of turns with Macedo down low. He used this to his advantage and slid in front of Randall coming out of 4.

Macedo was able to hold off Randall and Schatz on the final lap to come with the win and $15,000.

“That caution helped a lot,” said Macedo about the race. “He [Randall] struggled off of [Turn] 4 and I didn’t really know if I was gonna clear him or not, but I grabbed a little bit of that grip on the bottom and it shot me across. It feels good to have a lot of speed here.”
