Mid-Ohio IMSA Race Gets New Sponsor in Lexus

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will have a slightly different look for their season opener with IMSA.

For the last four years, Acura has been the title sponsor for IMSA’s stop at the 2.258-mile track in Lexington, Ohio. This was a local area sponsorship with Acura’s manufacturing taking place less than an hour from the track as part of Honda, Marysville.

Now, Lexus becomes the title sponsor for the Mid-Ohio season opener.

“We’re thrilled to partner together with Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course as the title sponsor of the Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio,” said Jeff Bal, Motorsports Manager, Lexus Division. “Lexus has had great success at Mid-Ohio since its return in 2018.

“Lexus has won the GTD class three out of the last four years and should be expected to run up front again in 2022. This year could be even bigger as Lexus has a large following in Ohio. We will have a big presence with guests and local dealership representatives at the track.”

Mid-Ohio president Craig Rust said, “Lexus has been a big supporter of this race since its inception and we look forward to working with them for years to come.”

In addition to being the title sponsor of the race weekend, Lexus will host guests at an exclusive hospitality area, have a significant trackside signage presence, and showcase a new vehicle display for fans to preview in the Manufacturer Midway. It will also provide the official safety vehicle and pace car for the Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio.

The Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio kicks off May 13th with a jam-packed schedule, including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, IMSA Prototype Challenge, and doubleheader races for the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup.

If it races, I'll write about it, talk about it or shoot it with a camera. I began pursuing a career in motorsports journalism immediately after attending college at Kent State University. I have hosted multiple Motorsports talk shows, worked in Country Music radio, and now i spend every day on the air in the morning with 1300 and 100.9 WMVO and in the afternoons watching the roadways around Central Ohio for 93.7 WQIO. The excitement and the fans make everything I put out there worth while, it's been an exciting 15 years having covered everything from the Daytona 500 to the Rolex 24 and you can find me at pretty much any event run at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. What I like to bring is a look behind the scenes, a look at what and who makes the sport grow. From the guy that welds pieces back at the shop to the host in the tv booth. Everyone has a story and I like to tell it. My main focus here at TPF is looking at the men and women behind the microphone and cameras. My life long goal is to become a member of MRN or PRN Radio and bring the races to you. I hope that what I share now is enjoyable and gives you a unique look in to the world of motorsports. See you at a track soon
