MOORESVILLE, N.C. – It is the end of an era for Will Power and Team Penske.
On Monday, after the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix season finale at Nashville Superspeedway, Power announced the end of his 17-year tenure with Team Penske.
The 44-year-old Australian has been instrumental in Team Penske’s success over the span of nearly two decades by amassing 43 victories, 65 pole positions, an Indianapolis 500 victory in 2018 and NTT INDYCAR Series championships in 2014 and 2022.
“It’s been the honor of my life to drive for Roger and the Penske organization,” Power said in a release from the team. “We have accomplished so much together, and I will always be grateful for my time with the team and my teammates who have supported me along the way. After much consideration, I felt like a change for me was the right move at this time.”
“As we sat down to talk about our future together, we felt that it was time for him to make a change beginning with next season,” said Roger Penske. “He has been an outstanding driver and teammate for our organization. His results speak for themselves, and we wish him the very best in the phase of his career.”
Power was first brought on at Team Penske in 2009 for six races as four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves endured legal battles for tax evasion. After a successful stint of three podiums and a victory over those six races, Team Penske hired Power full time for the 2010 season.
As it remains unclear who will replace the legendary Power, all eyes are pointing towards A.J. Foyt Enterprise young talent, David Malukas to take over the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet. A.J. Foyt Enterprises formed a technical alliance with Team Penske in 2023, and as a result the A.J. Foyt team has seen recent successful performances.
Team Penske stated that they will announce a replacement driver at a later date prior to the 2026 season.
