Brad Keselowski has come close towards winning a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
Presently, the 32-year-old Rochester Hills, MI native has two NASCAR Xfinity Series wins at the 2-mile superspeedway. All things considered, a Cup win would be indescribable for the 2012 premier series champion.
“Michigan has been a good track for us,” Keselowski said. “Even though we don’t have the win, we’ve been super consistent and been solid. I think we’ve got a great opportunity this weekend as well.
It’s hard to put into words what it would mean to win here other than ‘a lot’ because I haven’t done it yet. It’s a better question afterwards. I know with the Xfinity races, I’ve been fortunate to win here. They rank right up there with the wins I have in the Cup level. I can only imagine what it would be like at this level.”
At any rate, Keselowski can take heart that he and his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusions have been fast off the truck. With a pair of victories (Atlanta and Martinsville) under his belt, he expressed gratitude when reflecting on his season to date.
Keselowski is off to a strong start in 2017.
“It’s been a good start with winning races early in the season,” he said. “That always feel good and helps you carry some moment. I feel like we could’ve won a few more races but things didn’t quite fall our ways. All in all, our team’s been really solid and I’ve got a lot to be thankful for.”
Argubably, Keselowski takes pride with operating and owning his Truck Series team. When Brad Keselowski Racing alumni Ryan Blaney won at Pocono last Sunday, he displayed joy and excitement like that of a big brother.
Beyond his focus on another Cup title, Keselowski takes pride with his Truck Series team.
“It’s good,” he said. “That’s exactly what we’re hoping for. That’s the point of that series and team. I’m privileged that I am here because of the people who support me and gave me the opportunity.
I feel like my way of saying thank you to them sometimes is to do the same for others. To see that work and effort come into fruition is a good feeling.”
Above all, aside from another coveted Cup title, Keselowski desires a victory at this two-mile superspeedway, particularly on this special Father’s Day weekend.
“Fathers allowed us to participate in the sport,” he acknowledged. “We always want to do good by them and honor them in any way we can. It would mean a lot to my dad as much as it would mean to me to win here. It’s the best way I know to honor them.”
