INDIANAPOLIS — Maddy Siegrist delivered a career-high 22 points, leading the Dallas Wings to an 81-80 victory over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The win, Dallas’ ninth of the season, came without the services of star guard Arike Ogunbowale, who was sidelined due to injury. Despite the victory, the Wings remain out of playoff contention with a 9-24 record.

Siegrist’s performance was instrumental in the absence of Ogunbowale. She showcased her scoring ability, hitting timely shots and providing a steady offensive presence.

“I think for me, just the most important thing was getting the win tonight,” Siegrist said. “So whatever that took, knowing that there, you know, a really tough team, especially at home. So that was the mentality going in. Without Rike [Arike Ogunbowale] tonight, we kind of knew it was going to be step up by committee. But obviously you know it feels good when shots go in. I just think, you know just trying to be more consistent. Glad a couple threes went inside.”

Li Yueru came off the bench to contribute 20 points, providing a significant spark for the Wings. Her energy and efficiency were crucial in maintaining momentum during key stretches of the game.

“Yeah. Like Maddy said, we just tried to get away tonight and try to do small things to good small things,” Yueru said. “And we try to be better single defense and offense. And for me, I really hope I can keep that feeling for another game and try to we can bring more win.”

Paige Bueckers also played a pivotal role, contributing 16 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. Her all-around performance helped facilitate the Wings’ offense and provided stability in critical moments. Bueckers’ ability to distribute the ball and make plays was evident throughout the game.

Head coach Chris Koclanes praised the team’s resilience in a challenging environment.

“Yeah, just proud that we hung in there and we eked that one out in a tough environment,” Koclanes said. “This is one of the best places to play their fans show out. It’s an incredible environment. And so when they start going on those runs, it gets loud. So for us to be able to get enough stops when we need it and throw enough punches back, just a really good growth moment for our young group.”

The game was marked by several lead changes and intense moments. Both teams exchanged runs, with the Fever attempting to capitalize on their home-court advantage. However, the Wings’ collective effort and timely plays secured the narrow victory.

Despite the win, the Wings’ season remains challenging, with playoff aspirations unattainable. Nevertheless, the team’s performance against a formidable opponent like the Fever provides a foundation for future growth and development. With key players stepping up and contributing significantly, Dallas aims to build on this momentum in the remaining games of the season.

The Fever, on the other hand, continue to solidify their position in the playoff race. Their balanced scoring and cohesive team play have been instrumental in their success this season. While the loss was a setback, the Fever remain focused on their goals and are determined to maintain their competitive edge.

As the season progresses, both teams will look to refine their strategies and build upon their performances. For the Wings, the emphasis will be on consistency and development, while the Fever will aim to sustain their momentum and secure a favorable playoff position.

In summary, the Dallas Wings’ 81-80 victory over the Indiana Fever highlighted individual performances and team resilience. While the win does not impact playoff standings for the Wings, it serves as a testament to their growth and potential moving forward. The Fever, despite the loss, continue to be a formidable force in the league, with their sights set on postseason success.
