The top level of sports car racing has been absent from the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course since 2013. As a matter of fact, the Rolex Grand-Am Series was the last to race at the 2.258 permanent road course in Lexington, OH.
That all changes next month on May 4-6 as the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship returns to Ohio.
In fact, the return to Mid-Ohio is a popular one for drivers. All things considered, the tight quarter racing and short sprint race is fun for drivers. Plus it makes for an exciting afternoon for the fans.
With the return and the excitement level for this event, Mid-Ohio announced a new presenting sponsor. The track announced this morning round number four of the the sports car season will be sponsored by Acura.
The highlight of the weekend will be the Acura Sports Car Challenge on May 6th. To say the least, this is a partnership that the series, track, and Acura are proud of, as Acura makes its return to Mid-Ohio along with IMSA.
“This feels very much like a homecoming for the Acura brand,” said Jon Ikeda, Acura vice president and general manager. “Our sponsorship of American Le Mans Series racing at Mid-Ohio goes back a decade, and our corporate relationship with the race track spans a full quarter century.
Renewal of a long time partnership
Acura sponsored the sports car events from 2007 to ’09 when the former American Le Mans Series raced at Mid-Ohio.
“We’re thrilled to have Acura back as we relaunch a dedicated weekend of world-class professional sports car racing. Our fans have eagerly awaited the addition of IMSA to our schedule,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “Having Acura on board makes it an extra special opening race weekend. The Acura NSX is proudly made in Ohio. Fans will get to see it compete on track during the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio.”
Don’t miss any of the racing with the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA. Closing out the weekend will be the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio.
A Weekend General Admission ticket is $75 while a Weekend Grandstand seat is $85. Tickets purchased at the gate are an additional $5.
