Kyle Larson Scores Texas Victory in Relief Role

FORT WORTH, Texas — After a double overtime finish at Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson won Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, his second of the 2025 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.

Larson drove in a substitute role in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet for Connor Zilisch, who was still recovering from a back injury after a hard last-lap crash at Talladega Superspeedway one week ago.

“Thanks to JRM (JR Motorsports) for letting me come run this thing here today,” said Larson. “Obviously, wish Connor (Zilisch) was in the car, but means a lot that they thought of me to call up to run this thing.”

In the closing laps, Larson was in control, but Corey Day spun out in Turn 3, bringing the race under caution. This created a split strategy for the following restart, with Larson pitting, but six other cars stayed out. On fresh tires, Larson could drive back to the lead and survive the two extra restarts to claim the win.

“There was a lot of survival I felt like throughout that race,” Larson said. “Dodging some wrecks, balance we had to work on quite a bit. So, had a lot of fun today and cool to get another win here.”

The dominant driver of the race was Justin Allgaier, leading a race-high 99 laps and scored the Stage 1 victory. During the green flag pit stop cycle, Allgaier was on fresh tires after his stop and got tangled up with Kris Wright, who was significantly slower than the No. 7 coming off of Turn 4 and ended his day.

“We almost got wiped out right before the green flag stop by the same car (Wright),” said Allgaier. “He went up, then turned down, then went back up and then I tried to go to the bottom and he lifted and went back down. I’m frustrated with today and I’m frustrated with myself. I’ll go back and watch the film and figure out what I could do differently.”

Taylor Gray scored a career-best finish in second, Riley Herbst finished in third, Austin Hill came home fourth and Sam Mayer rounded out the top five in fifth place.

Nick Sanchez was also having a career run, well in position to challenge for the win. After lining up in the second row on the final overtime restart, Sanchez washed up the track coming out of Turn 2, hitting the wall hard and losing all his momentum.
