Clint Bowyer celebrates Michigan win
There were two winners over the weekend at Michigan, and one didn’t even race. It was Mother Nature playing her part this past weekend. It was almost more about dodging raindrops, as it was about getting your car fast at Michigan International Speedway.
Some drivers hit the track running, some didn’t even get through inspection.
Who was…
On The Gas
3: Paul Menard – It’s been an up and down season for the veteran in his first year with the Wood Brothers, but four consecutive top 15 finishes that include his first top 5 heading in to an off weekend, give this single car program a lot to smile about heading towards the halfway point of the season.
2: Stewart-Haas Racing – For the first time in the teams history, they came home with a sweep of the top 3. It’s not just Harvick, but any of their drivers can win right now. If they get the No. 10 car a little extra boost, don’t be surprised to see all four of their cars battling down the stretch. Three are there now.
1: Clint Bowyer – This sport is better when Clint Bowyer is happy and winning races. It’s fun and everyone is enjoying it. Bowyer now has two wins on the season, only once in his career has he won more than 2 in a year. Mark it down, 2018 will be the 2nd time in his 14 year career.
From the front, to the back, and those that were struggling to find, “Ludicrous” speed at Michigan.
On The Brakes
3: Daniel Suarez – He may have been the only Joe Gibbs Racing driver to pass pre-race inspection over the weekend, but that didn’t help as the speed was not there, and Suarez was the first driver to finish off of the lead lap in 30th.
2: Matt Kenseth – This can’t be what Kenseth was expecting when he returned to the track for Roush-Fenway Racing, especially when he sees other Fords up front and dominating races. Bet the “R” word doesn’t sound so bad now, does it?
1: Jimmie Johnson – The seven time champ isn’t looking like it right now. Luckily those trophies are already at home, but for Johnson, he hasn’t had a winless season in his full time cup career, he’s only led two laps and is on track to have his 4th straight season of not leading 1000 plus laps. Now may be the perfect time to panic if you’re a 48 fan.
For those that needed a little heavier foot at Michigan, they have good news, it’s an off week as we celebrate Fathers Day. Recharge and fun to the finish.
Next up, our first road course race of the season. It’s off to wine country, at least you have something to help the pain of a bad day out there.
