FORT WORTH, Texas – NTT IndyCar Series veteran Santino Ferrucci will replace Jack Harvey in the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda for today’s XPEL 375 at Texas Motor Speedway. He’ll be driving a special 15-minute practice session prior to the race.

TracksideOnline.com first reported that Ferrucci was seen suited up to compete in the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing ride this morning. INDYCAR later issued a statement confirming Harvey won’t be allowed to race.

“All drivers wear accelerometers that measure g-forces exhibited during an incident. These get evaluated, fully, after each incident, and if the result of the g-forces surpasses the minimum threshold, drivers must be re-evaluated prior to returning to competition. Following the protocol, the driver of the No. 45, Jack Harvey, was re-evaluated this morning and was not cleared for racing. Harvey is working closely with the INDYCAR medical team regarding next steps.”

Harvey crashed during Saturday’s final practice session where the left side was completely destroyed. Harvey got out of his car but the No. 45 machine was damaged beyond repair that the team pulled out the backup car.

It’s not just a regular oval backup car. It’s the team’s Indianapolis 500 ride in two months.

Throughout Saturday afternoon, Ferrucci was seen around the INDYCAR paddock, even having a conversation with AJ Foyt. Now, Ferrucci is set to make his first INDYCAR start of 2022 and the sixth with RLL Racing.

Last year, Ferrucci split time between INDYCAR and NASCAR Xfinity Series. In the former, his best outing were a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 105th Indianapolis 500 and in the first Belle Isle race.

Ferrucci has only competed in two races at Texas with his best result being fourth in 2019 when he drove for Dale Coyne Racing.

Live race coverage of the 248-lap event begins at Noon ET on NBC with green flag time slated at 12:40 pm. Felix Rosenqvist will start on pole.

Throughout my young motorsports media career, my number-one goal is to be a personnel that can be flexible with my writing and photography in the world of NASCAR and INDYCAR. Content delivery is vital because this is my main passion and what keeps me going. On the side, I also do sports production ranging from Seattle Kraken hockey to the 2023 NCAA Women's March Madness. All for the love of the game. With four National Motorsports Press Association photography awards, I'm not slowing down anytime soon. Outside of media, I'm super vocal about my musical tastes that goes from Metallica to HAIM. At times, there might be some Paul Thomas Anderson and Southern California references in my social media.
