ARLINGTON, Texas — A crowd of 6,116 fans showed up to watch a thrilling game as the Dallas Wings lost in agonizing fashion, 97-96 , to the Los Angeles Sparks. The game came down to the final seconds where Paige Bueckers missed the potential game winning 27-foot shot. In a month where the WNBA has been trolled on and off the court, the fans remain the heartbeat of the league.

“I think everyone felt the energy in that game, especially the last two minutes”, Wings forward Maddy Siegrist said. “The fans were just great. So, to have that behind you, and you feel that, you feed off that, is just great for us.”

In the past several weeks, at various WNBA games across the league, play was halted due to ‘adult toys’ being thrown onto the court which ensued by a Crypto meme coin group as reported by Meghan L. Hall of USA Today’s For the Win. These negative fan interactions left players and coaches frustrated.

Wings guard Grace Berger feels that there will always be negativity as the sport continues to grow and as more people watch the WNBA, but that it’s important to focus on the positive.

“For every one negative person, there’s 10 people that are super positive, that are big WNBA fans, and very supportive of us”, Berger said.

According to the Sports Business Journal, the WNBA average 11,127 fans per game.  However, the Dallas Wings attendance is well below that average at 7,441. A multitude of factors play into the Wings’ low attendance, including the fact that they play in a relatively small college arena on the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington’s stadium, College Park Center.

With the addition of Bueckers, who was drafted first overall in 2025, the Wings have elevated ticket sales. The Wings are now planning to move into a larger arena in downtown Dallas. And, for the second straight year, the Wings sold out of their season ticket membership accounts.

Season ticket holders Alex and John Forrester like watching the sport grow in popularity and watching the players build connections with one another. They both agree it will take winning to get more fans to the games.

“Honestly, part of it is winning, and then finding the right team,” Alex Forrester said. “They [the Wings] can build around Paige and maximize the assets they have as much as possible.”

Bueckers reached yet another milestone in her rookie career, during the loss to the Sparks, setting the franchise rookie assist record with her 143rd assist of the year and the fastest player in Wings franchise history to score 500 career points. She finished the night with 29-points, five assists and four rebounds.

Throughout the 2025 season, winning is just what this Dallas Wings team is trying to do. They refuse to be discouraged by their 9-25 record. They give their all until the very last moment.

“I think as a team, you know, we’re growing and we’re growing in the right direction”, Siegrist said post-game. “And obviously, we would like to win every close game that we’re in”.

In a game where the Sparks held as much as a 16-point lead, the fans in attendance remained steadfast and unwavering to the Wings, proving that they were the real MVPs.

As the 2025 season winds down, the Wings hope to repay those MVPs in the Dallas-Fort Worth marketplace with a road victory against the Las Vegas Aces (20-14) on Sunday at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
