WILMOT, Wis. — Just a couple days after their last race, the World of Outlaws sprint cars went to Wilmot Raceway for the Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40.
Carson Macedo and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid led the 24-car stacked field to the starting zone in Turn 4. Macedo got out front with Kofoid right on his heels, but a spot back held Brady Bacon, and he was feeling the heat from Sheldon Haudenschild and David Gravel. As the three of them came off of Turn 4, they went three-wide down the front straightaway with Bacon maintaining third, Haudenschild behind him and Gravel in fifth.
On a restart due to Creed Kemenah spinning in Turn 3, Haudenschild got right up beside Bacon. He went down to the bottom to try and slidejob him, but just could not find the right groove and faded back a little bit.
Lap 9 saw Haudenschild find his way to Bacon again. Coming down the front straight, Haudenschild was nose-to-tail with Bacon and gave him a little baby nudge, letting him know that he was there.
A couple laps later, Kofoid had caught up to Macedo to gun for the lead. Going into the corner, Kofoid took the bottom and was able to slidejob Macedo coming out of Turn 2 and down the backstretch, taking over first place, but it was short-lived because a caution came out.

Donny Schatz, who started 14th, was up to seventh and managed to get his way around Giovanni Scelzi for sixth on Lap 24. Not stopping there, Schatz used his veteran skills to find the holes needed to get around the other drivers in front of him in an effort to crack the top five.
Gravel knew Schatz was right there and did not like it too much. So, he kicked his car up a notch and blasted past Haudenschild in fourth to put him a spot back, and looked to the outside of Bacon for third coming down the grandstand side of the track.
On Lap 28, Gravel finally got by Bacon for third after battling with him for a few laps. Gravel kept to the high side and was able to finally slide down in front of Bacon coming off of Turn 4.
Macedo managed to keep the lead to dominate the 40-lap race, and lap cars all the way up to the eighth position. Macedo was followed by Kofoid, Gravel, Haudenschild and Bacon.
“Yeah, that was ridiculous,” said Macedo about the race. “My car was unbelievable, especially when we got into traffic. I knew we were going to be in really good shape when we got to traffic, just because I could pretty much run wherever I wanted as long as I had clean air on my wings, and you know that when you’re good like that it’s tough for anyone to get by ya.”
