Topping the leaderboard during the two practice sessions for the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio was the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac and the Meyer Shank Racing No. 60 Acura. However, neither of those two fast cars would end up sitting on top of the board following qualifying.

Mazda would shock DPI as Harry Tincknell earned the Motul Pole Award. The No. 55 Mazda would smash the previous qualifying record by nearly seven-tenths of a second.

Tincknell said, “Seventy seconds around Mid-Ohio is really pushing on quite a bit.” Tincknell would put up the top stop during the warmest part of qualifying, followed by Ricky Taylor and Felipe Nasar.

Tincknell and his Mazda teammate, Jarvis, were near the bottom of the DPi timing charts in practice, but they found speed when it counted.

The 29-year-old Englishman admitted that he never expected to lap under the track record by such a large margin. He set his time with more than five minutes remaining in the 15-minute qualifying session.

“I was surprised because we hadn’t shown anywhere nearly that pace so far during the weekend,” he said. “The sun has come out today, and I think that helped us a bit. That’s the best the car has felt around here by a long way and the new surface around Turn 2 perhaps provides a bit more grip.”

Gar Riley lead the way in LMP3 driving the no. 74 for Riley Motorsports.

The IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Series and the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio goes green on NBC at 2:40 pm

If it races, I'll write about it, talk about it or shoot it with a camera. I began pursuing a career in motorsports journalism immediately after attending college at Kent State University. I have hosted multiple Motorsports talk shows, worked in Country Music radio, and now i spend every day on the air in the morning with 1300 and 100.9 WMVO and in the afternoons watching the roadways around Central Ohio for 93.7 WQIO. The excitement and the fans make everything I put out there worth while, it's been an exciting 15 years having covered everything from the Daytona 500 to the Rolex 24 and you can find me at pretty much any event run at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. What I like to bring is a look behind the scenes, a look at what and who makes the sport grow. From the guy that welds pieces back at the shop to the host in the tv booth. Everyone has a story and I like to tell it. My main focus here at TPF is looking at the men and women behind the microphone and cameras. My life long goal is to become a member of MRN or PRN Radio and bring the races to you. I hope that what I share now is enjoyable and gives you a unique look in to the world of motorsports. See you at a track soon
