LONG POND, Pa. — It was a picture perfect day for pole sitter Layne Riggs, as he shot to victory lane in Friday’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series MillerTech Battery 200 at Pocono Raceway, collecting his first win on the season, as well as his first since his Fall Bristol Motor Speedway win last September.
Riggs had been fast all day and was running second to championship leader Corey Heim coming to a restart with 19 laps to go, only to have Heim’s No. 11 Toyota suffer a flat tire just as the field was about to take the green flag, allowing Riggs to surge his way past Carson Hocevar, who suffered a late penalty, as he held off Heim’s Tricon Garage teammate of Taylor Gray for the final 20 laps of the event. Early on in the race, Riggs and Heim proved to be the two strongest drivers in the 35-truck field, as Riggs was able to capitalize on a Stage 1 victory after a late-stage caution for Cody Dennison, which saw Heim and other contenders put under green to flip the stage.
Calamity struck the race with 30 laps remaining as two major crashes occurred. A caution flag was thrown shortly after the restart due to a multi-truck incident in Turn 2. Grant Enfinger, who was positioned three wide, made contact with Ben Rhodes and slid into the outside wall, collecting Tyler Ankrum and several other trucks behind him.
After the fourth and final caution of the event flew for Jake Garcia, losing control of his No. 13 Quanta Services Ford F-150, Heim and Riggs lined up for another restart, but problems arose aboard Heim’s No. 11 Toyota Tundra, as the tire had cut on the Truck Series points leader, putting the Marietta, Georgia sensation out of contention, which was followed by a Carson Hocevar restart violation penalty, giving way for Riggs to an open racetrack. Tanner Gray, who found his way back inside the top 5 in the trail of Riggs, was unfortunately no match for the 2024 Truck Series rookie of the year, as the driver of the No. 38 Ford F-150 drove to the victory by over 3-seconds.

“That’s just a testament to the team,” Riggs said in a post-race interview. “That thing was bad fast, especially that last run right there.”
“I hate the 11 (Heim) fell out and not sure what the seven (Hocevar) was doing on the restart there, but made sure to take advantage of it, But, hey, I’m a happy man right now, last year we wrecked in practice, didn’t qualify and ran dead last all day. And today we were the best. It’s amazing.”
Gray, who worked his way back through the field, finished in the top 5 for the first time in six races and was determined to make Pocono the race where he could secure a spot in the playoffs, but also an outlook for the final four regular-season Truck Series events.
“We started well and qualified better than I expected,” Gray told The Podium Finish. “I mean, we gotta win, we’re not going to be able to point our way into the playoffs, we just need to figure out how to go to these places and be good.”
Kaden Honeycutt turned in another impressive performance in third, followed by Brandon Jones and Daniel Hemric in the top 5.
Connor Mosack, Chandler Smith, Stewart Friesen, Ty Majeski, and Rajah Caruth rounded out the top 10 finishers after 200 miles of attrition.
As Riggs exits Pocono, he now jumps to third in the playoff standings, as well as fourth in the regular season points standings, as the Truck Series ventures to another standalone race at the historic Lime Rock Park next weekend.
Coverage of the Liuna! 150 at Lime Rock Park will air live on FS1 on Saturday, June 28 at 1:30 p.m. ET, with radio coverage provided by the NASCAR Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
