KANSAS CITY, Kan. — After scoring his 37th NASCAR Cup Series victory at Texas Motor Speedway last week, Joey Logano backed up that effort with a ninth-place finish in the Advent Health 400 at Kansas Speedway. A clean, productive race with a strong finish was exactly what the doctor ordered for the No. 22 team.

Before Logano scored his win at Texas, he was having one of the worst starts to a season in his Cup Series career. Up to that point, Logano only had one top-10 finish on the year, with an eighth place finish at Martinsville in March. The win at Texas Motor Speedway one week ago marked his first top five on the season, the longest it has taken a defending champion to reach that milestone. But Logano and his No. 22 Penske Racing team put that behind them on Sunday and ran another clean race to back up their success in the Lone Star State.

Before the race began, Logano had already started off the weekend well with a fifth place qualifying effort, giving himself a better chance of achieving a solid finish the following day. When the green flag dropped on Sunday, the No. 22 Pennzoil Ford Mustang was already showing some of that speed by holding a top-10 spot throughout the majority of the race.

For a brief moment around Lap 207, with only 60 laps to go in the race, Logano looked like he had a chance to get past a dominant Kyle Larson, who eventually went on to lead 221 laps and win the event for his 3rd win of the year. Logano restarted twice on the outside of Larson, but each time he was not able to make haste and find a way around the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

Throughout those final 60 laps, Logano fell back ever so slightly, but he was able to salvage the day with an effective ninth place finish. Even though the veteran driver out of Middletown, Connecticut did not find Victory Lane, the finish was still a win in the eyes of the No. 22 team, who had been struggling to find success throughout the early part of the season.

With the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway approaching next weekend, Logano will be looking to maintain his momentum at a track that has been favorable to him in the past, as he won the All-Star Race just one year ago.
