With one race in the books at Kentucky Speedway, The Buckle Up In Your Truck 225 gave fans an optimistic view about the PJ1. In fact, most have given fans hope that the Cup race may be one of the best of the season.
Ross Chastain, last weeks Xfinity series winner at Daytona will do triple duty this weekend at Kentucky. Chastain, is very optimistic. “This is the best job they’ve done (laying down the PJ1). Chastain said by the end of the weekend, it should be right where drivers need it. But, he did say, this compound has activated the quickest and had grip right away.
Cole Custer on the other hand said it’s taking a little time, but once it fully activates under this hot summer sun, it should really give then an added lane. “We’ll be around the middle down in turns three and four, but turn one will be a wait and see.”
Turn three has always been a headache for drivers here at Kentucky, and proof of that was shown last night with Grant Enfinger trying to dive in to the corner and causing a big wreck with Brandon Jones.
Custer thinks that most of the cars will be right around that middle groove tonight for the Alsco 300. With those lanes of racing, and a flat entry, drivers getting pinched off and breaking loose could cause big problems.
Playoffs
Every driver has an agenda for tonight and tomorrow in Kentucky. But for the “Big 3” in the Xfinity series, it’s a varying strategy for the stretch driver to the playoffs. For Christopher Bell, weekends like this are his concern. “We need to get better on the mile and a halfs.” Bell says even though he ran well last year here at Kentucky. (Won after starting 12th) “We know our short track program is really good, but this will be a real test for us to see where we stack up.” It looks like it will be a good start as Bell led the opening practice and was second in the final session.
Bell thinks doesn’t think they’ll lay up and start “experimenting” yet, but they want to focus on consistency
On the other hand. Cole Custer said it’s full speed ahead. “we want to collect as many playoff points as possible.” We’re going to do what got us here and not let up.
